Take Me to the Moon

On a recent visit to the Mills Observatory in Dundee, along with other members of our local camera club, and we were treated to a introduction to Astronomy by the staff, given a tour of the planetarium and finally given a chance to photograph the Moon using an adapter to connect our cameras to the main telescope.

I wasn't sure what to make of the evening and more importantly what to expect having never attempted this type of photography before so it was very exciting to see what was possible with one of the largest lenses in the world one could have access to!

It was incredibly difficult to get shots, mainly because the adapter connection did not work that great because of a loose fitting so you had to be very patient and still in order to get decent photos but I managed to get some brilliant ones.

The level of detail is great but I am reliably informed that when it's a full moon, it is very bright and therefore not the best time for photography, it is better when it is a crest as you get more detail. I will certainly be back when I get the chance to have another go.
